Understanding how to use a sewing machine

Learning how to use a sewing machine can easily be done if you read the instructions and get acquainted with the parts and accessories before starting  any sewing projects.  Once you’re ready to begin sewing simply:

  • Wind and insert the bobbin.
  • Raise the machine's needle to the highest possible position.
  • Raise up the presser foot, this part is responsible for pressing the fabric down.
  • Make sure that you position the machine right by positioning machine's body to your left, and the needle to your right.
  • Ensure the needle is securely inserted.

Now let’s Start Sewing

To start sewing, acquire two pieces of fabric and put the one fabric on top of the other. Keep in mind that the distance between the fabric edges and needle should be equal to the allowance of the seam. It is best that you make use of a soft fabric at first.

By rotating the hand wheel, bring the position of the needle to the top. At first, it is best to choose a medium stitch length and straight stitch. Then place the two pieces of fabric under the needle, and then lower the presser foot. This will hold the fabric into position. You can then start stitching. After you have finished your stitching, raise the needle into the highest position again.
